Preparing for Battle

Redemption in Christ is a beautiful thing and I wish with a heavy heart that everyone would experience it and its worth compared to the opposite way of life which leads to destruction and ultimately eternity away from God. It's a battle that the enemy should never win, but we let him win too many times because we love sin more than we love God. Harsh, but true. If we didn't love sin more than God, then we wouldn't limit him to a one hour worship service on Sunday morning while throwing caution to the wind and living how we please throughout the week and especially on Friday and Saturday nights.

It's time for us to fight against the enemy and stand up to his ploys to deceive us and attempt to tear us away from worshiping our Lord and spending eternity with him.

It's time to draw our swords and prepare for battle. It's time we have a holy passion.

"Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil." Ephesians 6:11

The enemy is full of deceit. He lies to us about what is valuable in life. He lies to us about our own self-worth. Too many times he tells us that our worth can be found in a bottle of alcohol or in giving away our own bodies to sexual impurity or in gambling or in [insert sin that tears us away from God here]. But God tells us otherwise.

In Genesis 1:27, the Bible says: "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." Boys and girls alike, all of us, are created in the image of God. How is that for self-worth! He loves us so much more than we realize because if we realized it, we would not turn to the things that we do to find our self-worth.

We can no longer listen to the enemy.

When we ignore the lies of the enemy, that opens up space and frees us up to listen to what God, our Abba Father, has to say about us. When we listen to him and only him, there is no conflict because we are not caught up in a mixture of true and false; we can stand firmly on the truth.

"Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name." Psalm 86:11

If we pray for God to reveal his truth to us and if we seek that truth through the Living Word, then we will come to know it. We will come to depend on it. We will come to live it.

It's a matter of warfare, and we are on the front lines. We cannot let the enemy advance any more than he already has. Revival is upon us. We must not give in. We must enjoy God more than we enjoy sin.

"This is the heart of following Jesus: enjoying God as Father through Christ the Son. And when this is a reality in your life, then your reason for living is utterly revolutionized." -David Platt, Follow Me

While God never forces us to do anything, there will be abundant life for us when we choose to live as he desires. We should respond freely from our hearts because we love him and delight in him and what he has done for us.

We should trample over anything that might pull us away from what we know to be truth. If we insist upon and desire the truth in our lives, we will employ the best strategy for winning the battle and eventually the war. If we keep ourselves dug into the Word and if we keep ourselves plugged into prayer and develop a meaningful and intimate relationship with the Lord, then there is no way for us to lose. Our life will develop new meaning and worth more than we could ever dream up for ourselves. He is able.

Certainly there will always be temptation, but God allows that. The trials we go through strengthen our faith. That's one of the reasons that bad things can and do happen to what we consider good people. Even in Luke 4, when we read about the temptation of Jesus, we see that God allowed it. Verse 1 explicitly states that he was "led by the Spirit in the wilderness." This is where prayer is vital. This is where standing firm on the truth that we have come to know is vital.

"Though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand." Psalm 37:24

God, through his Son, wants to transform your life. Be receptive. Fight the battle and don't back down. He will redeem you. Your new life can begin today because of what happened on the cross over 2000 years ago in what is the greatest act of love in all of history.

Nothing on this earth can or will ever compare to enjoying the presence of God and spending eternity with him in heaven. Remember to always fight the good fight of faith. Don't let the enemy win the battle. The war is raging around us. Will you fight it? In the words of A.W. Tozer, remember that this is holy business.

It is on. I pray that we will fight this and not grow weary. I pray that we would have courage to fight the enemy and not back down. I pray for revival in our hearts. Let us take up our crosses today and use them as our chief defense mechanism. With the Lord's help, we can do this. Let our God prevail in our lives over sin. Fight today, brothers and sisters.

"Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witness." 1 Timothy 6:12
