Why I Believe in Going to Haiti (or Wherever)

I leave in a couple of days for a trip to Haiti. I have been out of the country a couple of other times for mission trips, and every time before I go the responses I get about my upcoming plans are generally the same:

A) "That's cool, but I could never do that."
B) "That's good and all, but there's people here that need help, too."
C) "Why would you want to go there?"
D) All of the above.

So here's why I believe in going to Haiti (or wherever)...

When Darkness is a Good Thing

Never buy into the lie that your past defines you. Without darkness, there can be no light. Darkness is the backdrop against which all things good and bright and holy shine. Darkness is the scroll on which the pen of God's faithfulness etches beautiful and abiding stories.

How to Live Your Best Life

We are always searching for the latest & greatest self-help books and life manuals and the "next best thing" to tell us how to live. It's a common goal to want to reach our full potential. We all want to have a purpose...at the end of the day, what we all want to know is that our lives actually mean something. So how do we really figure this thing out?

It's the million-dollar question: How do we live our best life?

One Year No Dating Challenge: Mission Accomplished

Last week I told you that soon you would be hearing from one of my friends about her challenge. As of last week, she finished her one year. She has definitely inspired me, and I am so proud of her! I am sure that what Presley has to say will encourage you as much as it did me. Here is what she has to say from her perspective being on the other end of the challenge looking back:

One Year No Dating Challenge

Let me go on record saying that when I wrote my last post, I had no idea that the Lord was about to call me into a new season of life. I was taken by surprise, and didn’t even know just how much I would need that post.

#preachingthegospeltomyself

But being led by the Spirit happens (I get a lot of it wrong, but I pray to get this right), and so today, I am writing to talk about this new season…what it is, why I’m doing it, and what it’s all about. Let me also say that I do not think it’s a good idea or even the right idea for everyone. I think you have to examine where you are in your own life and ultimately your relationship with Lord, and then see where to go from there. I also know that it’s important to pray about it before you dive in blindly…then crash and burn from not being equipped or adequately prepared.

Why It’s Okay to Be Alone

We don't think it's okay to be alone.  Being alone has a stigma.  Nobody wants to "be alone."  I have learned that being alone is one of the greatest things.  There are no distractions, and there is nothing to compete for my attention or draw my focus away from what I'm trying to accomplish at the given moment.  Being someone who has never really given being alone a chance, I never thought I would be the one to say this, but…being alone is such a blessing.

2015 Goals

Goals

As cliché as it may be, a new year is the perfect opportunity to work towards growth and improvement. The last year was a rollercoaster for me. It was the best and worst of times. The grace of God has never been more evident in my life than in 2014. In order to not make some of the same mistakes again and to stop being complacent in life I wanted to write out a specific set of goals for this year. The value of physically writing out your goals is limitless. I know that if I want to see change in my life, then I must be willing to change myself. So if I can stretch myself to complete these tasks, then no matter 2015 may bring…I can be better prepared. Ultimately I know that the Lord is in control and my trust is in Him. But I also know that I must be a responsible steward of myself, time, relationships, and possessions. I can do so by investing in personal growth, improving my time management, building old relationships and cultivating new ones, and glorifying God with my possessions. My goals span all areas, including spiritual, physical, and financial. Here goes:
